Mission: The mission of this program is to prepare students for employment as entry-level marine mechanics and train them in the everyday workings of a marine repair facility.
Marine Service Technology consists of two programs: Marine Service Technology 1 – T500100 (600 Hours) and Marine Service Technology 2 – T500200 (750 Hours).
It is recommended that students complete Marine Service Technology 1 or demonstrate mastery of the outcomes of the program prior to enrollment in Marine Service Technology 2.
These programs consist of a planned sequence of courses.
Marine Service Technology 1
Marine Rigger - Course MTE0003 (300 Hours) – Content includes orientation and basic safety, employability and entrepreneurship, math for marine mechanics, communication skills, perform shop practices, fundamental theory for marine mechanics, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, prepare and deliver sales merchandise and computer literacy and office management.
Outboard Engine Technician 1 - Course MTE0050 (300 Hours) – Content includes use of industry related computer software maintenance and repair of fuel systems, maintenance and repair of two-stroke engines, perform gear case maintenance, testing engines and choosing propellers.
Marine Service Technology 2
Outboard Engine Technician 2 - Course MTE0070 (300 Hours) – Content includes maintenance and repair of cranking systems, maintenance and repair of outboard ignition systems, maintenance and repair of charging systems, disassembly and repair of upper and lower gear casings and electronic fuel injection systems.
Stern Drive Technician - Course MTE0183 (150 Hours) – Content includes removal and reinstallation of stern drive engines and drives, maintenance and repair of SD fuel systems, maintenance and repair of SD ignition systems and maintenance and repair of SD cooling and exhaust systems.
Inboard Gas Technician - Course MTE0054 (150 Hours) – Content includes removal and reinstallation of inboard engines and transmissions, maintenance and repair of inboard engines and transmissions.
Inboard Diesel Technician - Course MTE0056 (150 Hours) – Content includes maintenance and repair of diesel engines and fuel systems, diesel fuel problems and solutions and diesel engine electrical systems.
