Career and technical certificate students must be tested within the first six weeks of program enrollment.
The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is the instrument used to process new applicants. It is a standardized academic achievement test measuring achievement in reading, mathematics and language.The primary purposes of this test are for successful placement, student progression and completionof State-mandated exit requirements.
Students must meet State literacy requirements for reading, mathematics and language on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), as well as program specific requirements to receive either a certificate of program completion or terminal completion points.
Continuing workforce education students, apprentices, and students enrolled in programs less than 600 hours are not required to take the TABE.
Students interested in enrolling in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes must take the CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) before being placed.
