Mechatronics Definition: A Hybrid Technician trained in the theory and hands on application of Electronics, Fluid Power Systems (Hydraulics and Pneumatics), Applied Cross Discipline Unified Physics, Mechanical Systems (Gears, Drives, Mechanisms, Linkages and Levers), Industrial 3 Phase Electricity and Motor Controls, PC computer systems application and use, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Programming and Automated Control Systems/Robotics work cell setup and programming.

Program Length: 1 year and 9 weeks for a total of 1350 seat hours

Classes meet 7:00 am – 12:15 pm Monday through Friday. NOTE: On the job Cooperative Education (COOP) is available for the last 20% of the program.

Entry level starting salaries: approximately $30-40k. Long term salary range with continued education between $45-80k not counting overtime. In addition most companies offer a full benefits package.

Type of work: Technicians typically work as an automated machine maintenance technician who would work for the manufactures and end users of computer controlled automated equipment such as packaging / bottling machines, robotic manufacturing work cells and product process control systems.

The US Department of Labor estimates that more than 10 million skilled factory jobs will be unfilled by the year 2021 – only 10 years from now. Note: there are approximately 120 companies in Tampa Bay area alone that need Mechatronics Technicians.
